Mara leads architecture and alignment research, and understands the company’s systems as well as anyone alive. Her work concerns emergent behaviour: what a system does that nobody specified, why it does it, and whether “unexpected” is the right word for it. She is precise about language, which colleagues find either invaluable or exhausting.
